Different Sunsets
Hey guys, it's been a second.
I wanted to apologize real quick that I missed the blog over the past couple days but that's just because life has gotten in the way. I am going to try harder to get posts out but I know that my "post-a-day" aspiration might be a little out of my reach at the moment. I hope that you will forgive me for my shortcoming in this regard.
So I just want to share a quick story of something I was thinking of last night as my family and I were driving somewhere:
SUNSETS.
Last night my family and I were driving on the freeway for a while and eventually I looked out the window and saw one of the prettiest sunsets I've ever seen in my life. I tried to take a picture of it but my camera couldn't accurately capture the pinks and reds in the sky so the pictures are still pretty good but man they don't do the sunset justice.
I also took these from a moving car so they might not be perfect.
REGARDLESS, THE SUNSET WAS BREATHTAKING.
And so I got to thinking about sunsets in general because I was viewing this sunset at a pretty great distance from my home and I wondered if it would still look this good if I viewed it from my own window. Then I started thinking about what makes a sunset look like it does. I took a physics class a couple years ago and although I don't remember everything about what makes sunsets look like they do I remember that sunsets (and sunlight in general) look certain ways because of the angle that the light enters the atmosphere, making the light run in different shades and thus changing the look of the skyline.
Maybe that's incorrect or at least deeply oversimplified but that's what I was thinking about.
But then I kept thinking about sunsets and that not all of them look the same. You might see similar shades or hues but sometimes you take a look into the sky and the sunset just looks better than normal. Why is that? I don't know. But I was thinking about how one sunset might look better than others, but you can find something good about each one pretty much no matter what. Maybe this is a cheesy take, but I thought that maybe you could do something similar with each day in your life. Yeah, some days will appear obviously better than others, but I think there's beauty you can find in each day. Not every day has to be bright orange and red and pink to be good. Even the grayest days can be good, if you look for the good in them. Maybe I'm just being unnecessarily preachy. I don't know.
Anyway. Something else I was thinking about is that there are an incredible amount of people each and every day that are seeing the same sunset. Within the space of a few hours, people all around the world can look up into the sky and take a second to appreciate the way that the sunlight that sneaks its way into their eyes in that moment is a prettier shade than it normally is. And then I thought about the fact that under the exact same sunset there are people who are having the best day of their life. People are getting proposed to, people are laughing with their friends, people are making memories they will never forget. Of course, many other things are also happening under each sunset. But I was just thinking a lot about how each person has control over each day and that you can have your best day under any sunset. I don't know if I'm explaining myself here properly. But what I mean is that any sunset can be your best one. You just have to make it so.
I thought a lot about sunsets yesterday. I don't know if the words I typed in this post express these thoughts very well. Honestly, I don't know if my thoughts made any sense when I thought them for the first time either, before they were on my computer screen. I guess all I can do now is hope that these words can be at least kind of comprehensible. No promises there.
