Excited Beyond Words

Tonight, I was informed that I have been chosen to serve as the Bingham High School's senior class president next year, and I could not be more thrilled. I am so grateful for the chance that I'll have to serve my school next year and be an influence for good in the atmosphere there. I'm so pumped for all the exciting things happening next year, and I can't wait to get going.

The crazy thing is, this whole thing almost didn't happen. I almost didn't even run to be a class officer next year, and I'm so grateful for all the people who encouraged me to do so. Their words of kindness and motivation ultimately will change my life in so many ways, and I can't even express how thankful I am for that.

The craziest part about this whole thing?

I wasn't even a student at Bingham 365 days ago.

A year ago, I was a student at West Jordan High School, contemplating the theoretical possibility of switching to Bingham High School. I never could have imagined that this is where my path would go, and it still feels kind of unreal. So much has changed in the past year, and I'm so happy about it.

To be clear, I do not talk about this to brag or boast in any way. I don't mean to say "look at me and all that I've done" because I honestly don't even believe that this fortune I've been given is necessarily connected directly to my actions. So if the message you're getting from this is me talking about how cool I am, you're definitely getting the wrong message.

ANYWAY

I'm just so excited to be able to serve as the senior class president next year. I can't adequately put it in to words, because there are just so many things to look forward to. From all the dances to the December charity drive to athletic events to everything else, I just can't wait to be involved so much. It makes me so happy to think of all the opportunities I'll have to make my school just a little bit better next year.

I don't know EXACTLY how every little detail will be as a class officer next year, but that's actually kind of what excites me the most. This whole thing is up to how I want to take it, and I'm looking forward to making new friends and learning a ton of new things on this crazy journey. Like I said, I never could have guessed where life would take me a year ago. So I know that this experience will be crazy and unexpected and exhilarating and oh my gosh this post doesn't even make sense anymore I'm just so amped that I can't even write coherently!!

If you read my post describing why I chose to come to Bingham or my post about my choice whether or not to run for senior class office, you'll remember that I've felt like I came to Bingham for a specific reason, even if I didn't know what that reason was.

Well, I think I found my reason.

To the students that will attend Bingham High School next year:

Next year is going to be AMAZING! I'm so excited to work with you and make our school environment one that we all can enjoy, and I hope that we'll all be able to come together as a big family. I hope that you're not afraid to come talk to me, at any time. Offer suggestions, ask questions, express concerns, whatever! I just want everyone to be able to look back and say that they enjoyed high school. I know I will. So let's come together and make this whole thing great. I believe that when we unite to make things better, great things happen. It's going to be quite a ride, and I can't wait to get it started.

Sincerely, Giancarlo Diotaiuti
Your (still slightly in shock) Senior Class President
