A Brief Apology Letter, to You

Dear Reader, I'd like to begin by thanking you for reading my blog. Thanks for the support, the compliments, and the love. I cannot emphasize enough how much it means to me when I am told that someone appreciates the simple posts I publish here. With that said, I would like to apologize. I have kept you waiting this week for some new material that never came. I always make an honest effort to post at least twice a week, and I'm sorry that hasn't happened this week. The thing is, I put a lot of effort into each post I write. I don't ever want to rush to post anything or post something simply because I feel like I have to fulfill some sort of arbitrary quota, because I know that that would result in a lower quality post. That's not how I do things. I would rather write a few good posts than a lot of poor ones. So that's why my posting has been absent this week. And I'm sorry for that. I make no excuses. I can't say that I couldn't have wri...

Best Friend Friday #1: Antonio Dedić

Image
This post is the beginning of a project I've been planning on for a while. I call it "Best Friend Friday" (yeah, I know the name is pretty lame but the alliteration is quite nice). Essentially, each Friday, I'll write a post about one of my friends, just giving them a personalized shoutout and showing all of the readers of this blog how awesome they are. Let's hope this works out. This first post is going to be about on of the coolest people I've met in my brief time at Bingham High School so far. His name is Antonio Dedić. Antonio is a foreign exchange student at Bingham this year. He's Croatian, but his family lives in Germany. He is super cool. I met Toni in my technology class this year, where we partnered up and we've become pretty good friends. I really enjoy learning from him. He has a lot of perspective that I find really cool, because he has grown up in such a different way than I have. Toni speaks Croatian, English, German, a decent ...

Disclaimer: this is an account based on my own personal, firsthand experience. In truth, the experience is pretty limited. It's pretty biased, and may not be 100% accurate. If I offend you, I apologize in advance and I hope that you can understand that I meant nothing against you or the fantastic school I'm writing about (or the students therein). If you're looking for something that talks about Bingham's history of success without talking about it in the way I do, go check out this article: http://www.southjordanjournal.com/2015/08/10/82006/miner-magic-fact-or-fiction And so, I begin. If there's one thing you need to know about Bingham High School, it's that they're really good. At, well, just about everything. This is an image of a wall in the gymnasium at Bingham. Those are state championship banners, and there is an equal amount or greater on the wall on the opposite side of the gym. To be fair, Bingham's history is long, and you coul...

Why Worry?

As my family came home from church today, our garage door was open. This was unusual, but my brother's car was in the garage and so we weren't too concerned. At least, I wasn't. As we were pulling into the driveway, my mom said, "Let's go inside and then we can start to worry" (or something along those lines). I was like, what? I guess you have to understand that my mother is a pretty cautious person. Our doors are always locked, our windows are rarely left open, and she will always double-check with us if the garage door closed when we go out somewhere. Let's just say that she like to play things on the safe side. Like really far on the safe side. Not that that's really a bad thing, but it's kinda frustrating to have someone get angry at (and lecture) you for leaving the front door unlocked when you went out somewhere because you didn't want to make the person taking you wait as you locked the door. I mean I totally understand why she...

Thankful

Today is November 2nd. In twenty-four days, we will celebrate Thanksgiving, a holiday commemorating a 1621 celebration by the pilgrims where they had a feast after a very good growing season. Traditionally, this holiday is characterized by football, turkey, family, and giving thanks for what a person has (although this thanks that comes on Thanksgiving is generally overshadowed by the greed of the largest shopping day of the year - Black Friday - the day after). Regardless of your shopping habits, November is often a month of giving thanks, or at least of thinking of being grateful for what you have a little more often than usual. Because of this, this post is going to contain a list of 101 things I am grateful for. There are more than one hundred things, and I will probably list a few more after each post I create this month. But I just wanted to offer a little special tribute of gratitude, and get myself (and you) thinking of how truly blessed we are. They aren't in any specific ...
